Grass Stage models itself on the grassroots amateur touring artists who perform in rural festivals. Under the mentorship of writer, critic and theatre worker Zhao Chuan, the group has been an alternative to commercial and ¡°official¡± theatre in China, promoting non-professional theatre creation right at the cutting edge of Chinese culture today. Since its establishment in 2005, Grass Stage has been committed to collaborative creation and has staged forums, workshops and exchange activities with other overseas theatre groups in an effort to encourage people to reflect on social realities. Their works have been performed in mainland China, the Taiwan and Hong Kong regions, South Korea and Japan.
