Grass Stage models itself on the grassroots amateur touring artists who perform in rural festivals. Under the mentorship of writer, critic and theatre worker Zhao Chuan, the group has been an alternative to commercial and “official” theatre in China, promoting non-professional theatre creation right at the cutting edge of Chinese culture today. Since its establishment in 2005, Grass Stage has been committed to collaborative creation and has staged forums, workshops and exchange activities with other overseas theatre groups in an effort to encourage people to reflect on social realities. Their works have been performed in mainland China, the Taiwan and Hong Kong regions, South Korea and Japan.

March
Invited to Japan for “Asia Performing Arts Presenters’ Network Conference”

January
Performances from the Individual-theatre projects were performed at 2009 Hong Kong City Festival.

January – December
18 lectures had organized through the community culture project Culture Outpost.

November
Lu Xun 2008 was performed in Hong Kong, Taipei and Tokyo.

October - November
UNDER LUXUN BANNER – Performing and Symposium project was hold at DDM Warehouse, including Lu Xun 2008, a theatre production co-director, co-performing and co-produced by Clash Theatre (Hong Kong), Body Phase Studio (Taipei), DA-M Theatre (Tokyo) and Grass Stage; East Asia Body Presentation, performing series by artists from 8 cities; and a symposium, Forum: Theatre and Social Space etc.

May - November
Individual-theatre in Community project 1 and 2 were initiated, and performed in various locations included residential communities, charities occasions and villages.

Dec.

Madmen Story 2007  was performed at Downstream Garage in Shanghai

Sept.
Supported Haibizi’s Tent Theatre’s performance in Beijing.
Zhao Chuan and Hou Qinghui facilitated workshop at Songzhuang, Beijing.

Madmen Story 2007 was performed at Guling Street Avant-garde Theatre in Taipei, Hong Kong Fringe Club in 2007IDEA, Waterside Bar Theatre in Guangzhou and Outlook in Shenzhen.
Participated at “Mainland and Taiwan Small Theatre Forum” in Taipei.

2006
Sept. 
Madmen Story was performed at Shanghai Downstream Garage.
Madmen Story was performed at the Shanghai Institute of Visual Arts. Also a workshop was organised.

Aug
Designated and Participated in the "One man's Korean Drama" by Korea People's Theatre Association at Shanghai Duoland Museum of Modern Art.
Madmen Story  was premiered at Guohua Theatre at the "Youth Forum" of 2006 Collage Theatre Festival of China. 

July 
Participated in the East Asia People's Theatre Network (EAPTN) "Trainer's Training Program", two member of Grass Stage went to Korea for one month's training and performance

Feb
Introduced and assisted Taiwan Assessment Theater Company to perform the <Midnight Angel> and run people's theatre workshop in Shanghai.

Jan
Introduced and assisted the Shanghai version of Black Hole, Ending with Hong Kong and Taiwan theatre groups.

The Hot Social Cases was performed in the official opening of "Downstream Garage"

Oct
38th Parallel in Taipei, an extension version of 38th Parallel still Play was performed at the 2005 “Tri-city, Co-body" Theatre Festival at Guling Theatre in Taipei.
